Today I would like to tell you about the process of the manufacturing of the leather. First of all you should be informed that the high quality of the Carbotti's bags is the result of a careful selection of the leather. Our company, in fact, relies to the best Italian tanneries able to offer a raw material cured and reliable, the result of continuous controls in the supply chain and guaranteed by ISO 9001 certification. Our suppliers are highly specialized in chrome and vegetable tanning for the production of top quality leather, but also in the production and processing of bovine splits leather, refined and ennobled, to ensure quality and stability over time. The production process consists of a complex series of treatments where the hides are treated and processed to become shoes, jackets, bags, couches, chairs and any other article that designers and stylists can dream up. The process starts soaking and washing the hides in the water to remove impurities and folds, than the excess water is eliminated and the hide is stretched. After this there is the Splitting and Shaving phase: The grain – the outer surface of the hide – is mechanically separated horizontally from the split (the lower part), the entire surface of the hide acquires a uniform thickness. Soon after, the workers start trimming, cutting, selecting and dividing the hide, they prepare the leather for the key point of the process: (Dyeing phase), lending the hide softness, colour and stability. At this point the leather is ready for drying phase: Removing the water using special equipment made of steel plates and conditioning the leather by suspending it from an overhead conveyor at ambient temperature, and when it is completely dryed it is softened using a machine that provides a mechanical beating action. The next phase is the Buffing, the abrasion of the surface using special paper to lend sheen, and the last phases are Finishing and Ironing, to give the desired shine, colour and appearance.
